Wk 10 ~ CROPPING

Ok trying something new for me. I now finally understand what the print labs want by me resizing to the right size say 8x10 here:

HCC is welcome

Before Crop
After crop for 8x10 Canon XTi
Flash Used: No

Focal Length: 50.0mm

Exposure Time: 0.0040 s (1/250)

Aperture: f/4.0
ISO equiv: 200
White Balance: Manual
Metering
Mode: Matrix
Exposure: Manual
Exposure Mode: Manual

It sure crops...lol. But I have to wonder why does it crop so much if you want the 8x10 and for the 4x6 & 5x7 it does not crop.

Oh buy the way this is my 1st senior/grad shoot. My dh works with the mom and she wanted me to do this (I told her I am not a pro) There are a lot more photos, still going thru them. And why does my brain go blank when I do a shoot...lol.

I do like the crop...and the photo is awesome too. It can be so tough to get those boys to smile.

I struggle with cropping too. I always crop and then if I want a different size I have to go back to the original and redo the post processing. When will I learn?

I actually like the 2nd crop best! It works well for that photo!

A 4x6 is a basic photo size your camera produces... so that is why they are not cropped...any size with the same ratio will not be cropped...so if you want an 8x10 size...you will have to crop b/c the ratios are different...for no cropping you would need to order an 8x12. There is little apparent cropping with a 5x7, b/c the ratio is closer to a 4x6 than and 8x10. Does any of that make sense, :) lol!

Great shots. it has to do with the dimensions. 6 doesn't divide evenly into 10, so you end up losing quite a bit off the long side if you go to 8 x 10. (I think. That's how i think of it in my head... lol)

oh i have the hardest time resizing for print. my problem is i like to get in too close..so when i want an 8x10 i have to decide which limb or which eyeball gets left out of the shot. you did a great job here!

I like Jewels explanation of the hows and whys of cropping.
I like this shot. Nice pose and I like the cropped version because it brings the subject in a little closer.
